Sometimes It's a Bear

A reader brought this to my attention. Found on Facebook.

Since Removed

The guy is very proud of his poster. Said he worked on it all day. I can't leave a comment since I don't do Facebook.

It gets real old seeing your art hijacked. Not a bad idea, but did he have to so directly use my art as a template? Shucks, some of my original line work is still in tact. Somehow the C.Kallas MCart part got left off.

Am I a hypocrite? I admit I've tweaked a few Roth decals for the blog, but never to make money on or pass as my own art.

Hypocrite? Not at all. We all "borrow" internet images on occasion but the source should always be credited imo.

No, you're not a hypocrite. You just got ripped off. And a bad rip-off at that. All the detail, the thing that makes all of your art cool, is gone, probably because the guy couldn't pull it off or you just did such a good job that he had to remove the detail to mask how much he actually ripped you the fuck off. Rip-offs seem to be the trend lately. So much for originality.

Keep doing your thing. PS, it might be worth joining facebook just flame the dude on how much of a biter he is.

Apart from all the above valid points . . . how dumb are these swindlers thinking they won't get found out ??? And what about the old school niceties of getting in touch with the original artist to work something out first, pisses me off, folk rabbit on about 'corporate' greed etc but the 'little' guys are just as capable of some pretty base acts as well. Maybe being part of such a derivative society blurs peoples judgement on what's acceptable.

I posted a comment on it on his facebook page and it didn't last long. Looks like there is a way to report illegal use of trademarked and copywrited work and intellectual property through Facebook.
I sent him an email as well, you all should to.

Thanks guys. My wife has a Facebook account and sent him a comment yesterday. Another MCart Blog reader had already done so too. By the afternoon he had removed them but kept the image and his friends praise up. What a punk coward! I will definitely send him an email. Thanks for providing it Grant.

Not sure I'd go so far as to call your chopper picture 'art' ...facsimile might be more appropriate. It appears that too "tweaked" it...I think you had cow.
Nice blog.

I use the term 'art' like most people do that work in the graphics arts industry. Not to imply that it's of some great cultural significance.
