HAPPY EARTH DAY

I've been meaning to post this cartoon for the last several Earth Days but was either out of town or just didn't get it posted in time.

If you've wondered why I don't post much anymore, there's a few reasons.

1. Starting in about 2012 daily views started to drop when everyone started switching to Instacram
2. My artwork was/is constantly being ripped off.
3. My entire blog, photos, written words and all are being lifted and posted on several unscrupulous blogs that have no respect for other people's content/property. (I'm not talking about those that harmlessly lift a cool photo or two), everybody does that.

So, if you're seening this post and it's not on MCart, you're reading it on some thieving jerk's blog.

Header Art

These headers were both used for a very long time. The reason they are being posted as content is so they will be archived. I will be posting a few others that never were archived so they will be included in my art searches
Hopefully I'll get the time to post some new content soon.

Art Imitates Life

That's how one reader saw it.

About a year ago I received a purchase notification for one of my Old School Panhead prints. Soon after, the purchaser (a South bay resident), sent me a couple of images of his brother' bike from days past with the following message: "Now you know why I had to have the print".

It's pretty cool that my art stired some fond memories.

Leonard, Thanks for your support and for sending the pics.

Kern River Run

The 22nd Kern River Run was last weekend. It's an annual South Bay event honoring Fats. I'm always out of town when it's happening, but my art made it on this years T-shirt.
They slightly modified my old header art it to make it Fats and Dick... and yes, it was done with my permission.

What to do with a 65 Panhead?

As stated in an earlier post, Every now and then I do little thumbnail sketches to explore ideas floating around in my head.

Although I have all the parts to put my '65 Panhead back to it's former police orgins, I'm thinking of  having some fun with it before doing so. I even have an extra frame I could hard-tail if the urge is strong. Basically, I have almost enough extra parts to build another complete roller.
Anybody can build a nice rigid, but swingarms can be a challenge.

The style below is practical since it's an easy bolt-on process to go back to stock.
It aint much other than sort of a Dick Hirshberg style Fat Bob. Due to the rear shocks some pipes styles (like up-sweeps), don't work well with a swingarm. A Dick Allen style collector fits the style well.

CK's Sketch Book/45 ideas

Every now and them I do little sketches while drinking my morning coffee. Recently I was thinking about my 45 and how I might style it.
This is a small drawing of about 4 inches. Some of the proportions are off (like engine scale), but it gives the general idea.

Here I was playing around with tank ideas. The inspiration comes from the way Von Dutch liked to label the obvious. The flamed Gas and dripping Oil would actually be small lettering just behind the gas and oil caps.

Spring's Wretched Header

I like the way this art turned out, so it will likely serve as the header until June.
I did the line art about two years ago. Here's how it came about.

Hey Chris,
Jeff leighton here. We talked at the swap meet about you drawing something for a friend and I for a little project we are doing. I would like it to be cartoony like the old roth decals but at the same time very apparently Dave and I and our bikes. I have included pics of the bikes and us. There are 2 pics of Dave riding his south bay style knucklehead. We would like him riding it with afro blowing in the wind and everything. I also sent 2 pics one is of my 1938 UL flathead chopper, I would like the drawing to be of me riding that bike, the other pic is of me riding the knucklehead. I sent that because I would like the drawing to be me looking the way I do in the picture. black beanie sun glasses and black gloves. The name of our company thing is, " The Wretched Hive" so we would like that to be big on it also.

 Take these two guys...

 on these two bikes...

make it look sort of like this...

and you get this.

It turned out to be one of my all time favorites.

This Month's Header... maybe it's a stretch?

A little bit ago I saw this Classic Knucklehead on the LoserRules blog...
...which immediately made me think of...
...this art, which I've always loved!...
...which made me Photoshop this.

New Year's Header Redux

This New Year's Header is based on the ones I did for Jan. and Feb. 2012. I couldn't resist taking a bit from both and changing it some to reflect what's currently going on with Steve Sharp's rebuild of the Joe Hurst/Dick Allen chrome frame chopper. All three version are presented for your comparison.
These two (above and below), are amongst my favorite headers.
By the way... for some reason the blog's headers at the top of the page haven't been loading with the same color and contrast as they should for the last several month's. Google, please fix this!

Also, sorry for the lack of posts. I was out of town for quite awhile and then had a hard time getting back to the old routine.

This Season's Header, Summer!

Time to Ride!
Speaking of time, Lately I haven't had the time to create a new header every month, so This Month's Header will have to be This Season's Header for now.

Wise Guy Trike

The infamous Dr. Sprocket sent these vintage photos of Bob Wise's  chopped trike circa 1970.
While chronically underpowered, the 45 cubic inch falthead Serv-car makes for one cool chopper.
Talk about stance! Chopped Trikes were once very common. Even with todays re-interest in vintage choppers, you don't see that many trikes.
[Trick+Trike+Spread+1.jpg] It's a small world after all! The very same Bob Wise submitted the two black conept drawings for Street Chopper's (June 1972), Trick Trike contest. My art is on the facing page. I posted this a few years ago which lead to me meeting the good doctor.

January's Header

Happy F'ing New Year!
Old art (from 2 years ago), for a new year. Sometimes I just don't have the time to do a new header plus some are worth a second look.

Sorry about the slower pace of postings of late. I have a bunch of good stuff waiting in the wings, but it's going to be a few weeks before I'm up to speed, so hang in there.

This Month's Header

This art was inspired by the tank art on Doc Holidays Witch done by Randy Smith. Go back to last October's header to see what I mean.
She was suppose to be more malevolent but, because of my haste, it didn't turn out that way.
