Panhead Racer and Other TT's

I don't normally like to just lift and post images from other blogs but I had to share this one I found on the Lucky B Design blog.

You don't see many factory photos or bikes like this. Looks to be a '51 TT Racer. Note the raised transmission and the magneto at the generator's location. You can definitely see how bikes like this influenced the street bobbers built by guys like Dick Hirshberg.

I then Googled Panhead TT and almost nothing came up. I did find the '48 below at http://roadboogers-1948panheadtt-bobber.blogspot.com The strange thing about this blog is that it's one page devoted to just this bike. A look at the guy's profile revealed that he has 20 blogs all dedicated to a single bike.

Nice, but a bit too shiny and pretty for me. Should old bikes be so pristine?

Almost a twin '47 from another of his blogs.

Chris, That factory Panhead and some late factory Knuckles were used for hillclimbing and TT. They had chain driven Wico mags in the generator hole and those rare shorten factory oil tanks. I just sold a right case for one of them and my friend just bought a complete motor. Both '47 Knuckles. That gentleman's knuckle looks like the same bike but just changed around abit. It happens. You know all this already i'm sure. It's like preaching to the choir. Rich

Doc, Yes, I knew, but it's always good to have a dialog for the benefit of the readers.

Coincidently, a few days ago I saw a chain drive Wico being installed on the Rigid Hips blog Sweden. The Mag looked brand new so I was puzzled.

During my TT search I stumbled upon repop Wicos offered with three different drive set ups. On top, Chain up front, and gear up front for WR's.

That bike and the others you found were built by R.L. Jones from S.C. He was also at one time reproducing some DAH bikes, Herbert Wagner had photos of a couple in one of his books. The DAH he copied was originally owned and raced by Sammy Pearce from Greenville, SC.

Hey Chris, I did a couple of posts on Big Twin TT bikes a while back with some cool old pics on11/4/2010. I was doing some research for a buddy of mine that's building a 50 Pan TT.

KB, I went back and checked out your Nov. post. Love that knucklehead TT. I check your blog all the time but missed those. I must have been out of town at the time. I would have remembered them, those and and the shots from Ted's Cycle!
